ShopRite Partners In Caring And General Mills Announce Expressions Of Hunger: Video Contest To Raise Hunger Awareness
(March 1, 2010) To help call attention to the issue of food insecurity, ShopRite teamed up with General Mills in early 2010 to launch its ShopRite Partners In Caring Expressions of Hunger video contest. The goal of the contest was to creatively express the plight of the hungry and to bring awareness to the issue through song, poetry, dance or dramatic reading.
The contest was open to the general public and video submissions were encouraged to depict emotions and feelings on the plight of the hungry. Six grand prize winners were chosen in March and their pictures will be featured on a limited-edition Cheerios Box available exclusively at ShopRite stores in September 2010. The winning videos will be featured on this site, the Expressions of Hunger contest website (www.expressionsofhunger.com), as well as on ShopRite’s YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/user/ShopRiteSupermarkets).
Among the winning entries were a group of soup kitchen volunteers, a mother with two young sons and an aspiring singer/songwriter – a cross section of talented people with one thing in common – their desire to raise awareness of this important issue.
“ShopRite Partners in Caring has always been at the forefront in the fight against hunger. Reaching out in a new and creative way like this helps to expose the seriousness of this issue and calls people to action,” said Christine Magyarits, ShopRite Partners In Caring spokeswoman. “Our goal with the ShopRite Partners In Caring Expressions of Hunger contest was to provide a forum to creatively convey the impact of hunger and offer solutions to address the problem.”
