Local heroes help ShopRite warm stomachs and hearts with Turkey donations
Edison, NJ (November 2008) – The holidays are approaching and while some people are planning grocery lists and holiday menus, others will be thinking about where their next meal will come from. ShopRite hopes to help alleviate that worry for families in need this Thanksgiving. ShopRite Partners In Caring will continue to fight hunger within the community by donating 30 tons of turkeys to local food banks throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania. ShopRite trucks will make the first turkey donation of the season to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11th at 10 a.m.
This Veteran’s Day, local heroes from New Jersey’s Fallen Soldiers have volunteered to assist in the important delivery of donated turkeys. These men are no strangers to the frontlines and on the day when the country is honoring them, they are continuing to serve their fellow Americans by aiding in the fight against hunger
“Hunger in our communities is prevalent,” said Christine Magyarits, spokeswoman for ShopRite Partners In Caring. “ShopRite is proud to help ease the stress on families by providing them with turkeys for a traditional Thanksgiving meal that they can share and enjoy together. Since 2001,ShopRite has donated nearly one-half million pounds of turkeys during the holidays. This year, we are especially honored that some of America’s heroes have joined us to help in the fight against hunger. ”

According to Feeding America, (formerly America’s Second Harvest), the nation’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization, more than 36 million people, including 13 million children, live in households that experience hunger or the risk of hunger. These households are unable to consistently access nutritious and adequate amounts of food necessary for a healthy diet.
“The current economy and the added stress of the holidays make it very difficult for families to put enough food on the table,” said Kathleen DiChiara, Executive Director of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “Thankfully, generous donations from ShopRite Partners In Caring assist us with the growing need each year.”
