The Community Foodbank of New Jersey receives the first deposit of hope

Hillside, NJ (November 2008) – On the heels of the launch of the Bruce Springsteen “We Can’t Let This Bank Fail” advertising campaign, The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (www.njfoodbank.org) announced today that ShopRite supermarkets is making an emergency donation of $150,000 of food to aid the growing demand at the struggling food bank. The emergency donation will be divided amongst the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and other area food banks. The donation comes at a time when food banks across the tri-state area are facing food shortages and drains on their resources.

“ShopRite has been a great partner with us through the years and they continually provide much needed funding through their ShopRite Partners In Caring program,” said Kathleen DiChiara, founder of The Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “We hope that other retailers will follow ShopRite’s lead and provide extra support as we approach the critical winter months.”

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey is a safety net for over 500,000 people across New Jersey; however, the unstable economy has resulted in a 30 percent increase in those needing assistance while food donations are not keeping pace. With budgets much tighter than they have been in the past, a void has been created in food banks across the area. Support from corporate sponsors such as ShopRite is more important than ever. ShopRite will make the emergency donation to help meet these unprecedented needs.

ShopRite Partners In Caring Makes Emergency Donation…Add One

“ShopRite has a long standing commitment to supporting local food banks,” said Joe Colalillo, chairman and CEO at Wakefern Food Corp., “Through our ShopRite Partners In Caring program, we donate $2 million dollars each year to food banks in our trading area, but as we continue to see how the food banks are struggling, we’ve made a decision to provide an additional $150,000 emergency donation of food. We hope this support will help the food banks through these difficult times.”

In addition to retailers like ShopRite, legendary music icon Bruce Springsteen has stepped into the ring to help fight hunger by lending his voice to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. The Boss appears in an ad entitled “We Can’t Let This Bank Fail ”- a call to action for people to contribute in any way they can to help the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
