"People are concerned with the issue of hunger and I really feel change can be made if everyone would join together. The more involved people are, the more we can lead the way to end hunger.” - Justina
Clifton, N.J. singer, Justina, learned about the ShopRite Partners In Caring and General Mills Expressions of Hunger contest through her publicist, who discovered it on Facebook. After reading more about both organizations’ creative efforts to end hunger, Justina jumped at the chance to be involved.
In researching the issue of hunger, Justina was shocked to learn how little of America’s money is given to fight hunger versus other issues. Recognizing that food is a necessity for living and should be higher on the priority list, Justina was compelled to create a video to help in the fight.
For her video entry, “Gotta Make a Change”, Justina wanted to shed light on the real faces of hunger and show that hunger affects not only the homeless, but can also impact a neighbor or co-worker.
Justina hoped that she could help inspire others to get involved in the cause by combining her commitment and talents to get the word out. She has always had a passion for songwriting and the ShopRite Partners In Caring Expressions of Hunger contest was the perfect outlet to allow her to express herself through song.
Even before becoming involved with the ShopRite Partners In Caring Expressions of Hunger video contest, Justina was committed to lending her time to help those in need. Growing up, Justina donated food and volunteered at Eva’s Kitchen in Paterson, N.J. She has also participated in midnight runs, handed out food and clothing to the homeless in New York City and volunteered at a Trenton, N.J. area soup kitchen.
Justina will continue her efforts to raise awareness for the fight against hunger. She hopes to be a good role model through music and lifestyle to help motivate others to get involved because “every little step makes a difference.”
